The trout fishing season runs from April 1st through October 15th with 1.7 million trout stocked statewide.
April 1 is start of the trout fishing season. Trout stocking by the state in Warren and Washington Counties is in full swing. The DEC reports that more than 1.7 million catchable-size brook, brown, and rainbow trout are stocked in waters across the state from mid-March through early June. Most stream stockings include larger trout, 12 inches or more, as 10% of the total number. The trout fishing season runs through October 15th.
