New York has updated its rapid response plan to help stop the invasive round goby from spreading into the Lake Champlain Basin. State officials will continue special lock operations on parts of the Champlain Canal while resuming on-demand lockings beginning today to balance environmental protection and boating access.

    The Whitehall Central School District has appointed interim principals for both its elementary and junior-senior high schools after the resignations of Adriana Strong and Ethan Burgess. John Godfrey and Doug Duell will serve in the interim roles while the district begins a search for permanent replacements.

    Supporters of Kyra’s Law are urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign the child custody reform measure following last week’s deaths of a mother and four children in Mechanicville. The bill would require Family Court judges to give greater weight to domestic violence and child safety concerns when making custody and visitation decisions.
