• Stewart’s Employee Reaches Deal in Stabbing Case

  Charges against 22 year old Emily Underwood-Jones, accused of stabbing an 83 year old customer at a Stewart’s Shop in Saratoga Springs, will be dismissed if she is not arrested again within six months. Prosecutors say she acted in self-defense while trying to stop a theft, and the customer declined to pursue the case.

• Moreau Man Indicted on Torture Charges

  60 year old Mark N. Sabo of Moreau has been indicted on 32 charges after prosecutors say he tortured a victim over five months. The indictment alleges assaults with a blow torch, power drill, knife and fire poker, along with repeated gun threats. Sabo also faces a drug possession charge.

• New York Proposes First PFAS Landfill Rules

  New York is proposing what officials say would be the nation’s first rules requiring landfills to treat contaminated leachate before it’s released into the environment. The regulations target PFAS and other harmful chemicals to better protect drinking water. Public comments will be accepted through September ninth.

• State Updates Plan to Stop Invasive Fish

  New York has updated its rapid response plan to help stop the invasive round goby from spreading into the Lake Champlain Basin. State officials will continue special lock operations on parts of the Champlain Canal while resuming on-demand lockings beginning today to balance environmental protection and boating access.

• Whitehall Schools Name Interim Principals

  The Whitehall Central School District has appointed interim principals for both its elementary and junior-senior high schools after the resignations of Adriana Strong and Ethan Burgess. John Godfrey and Doug Duell will serve in the interim roles while the district begins a search for permanent replacements.
