New York’s Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is warning parents and caregivers never to leave children alone in parked vehicles. Officials say a car’s interior can quickly reach deadly temperatures, even in moderate weather or with the windows partly open. At least 14 children have died from vehicle heatstroke in New York since 1990. Drivers are urged to check the back seat, lock parked vehicles and call 911 if a child is found alone inside.
