• Mixed-Use Development Proposed for South Broadway

  Developers are seeking approval for a major mixed-use project on South Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Hemlock Woods would include a 120-room hotel, 128 apartments and 9,800 square feet of retail space near Crescent Avenue. The project still needs several city and county approvals before construction can begin.

• Hebron Man Charged After 59 Animals Removed

  66 year old Jerry A. Mattison of Hebron is facing 33 animal cruelty charges after deputies removed 59 animals from two properties. Authorities say veterinarians found the animals in failing health because of poor living conditions and inadequate food, water and shelter. The animals included horses, cattle, chickens, quail, goats and dogs.

• Fort Edward Man Charged With Arson

  31 year old Nicholas Oliver of Fort Edward is facing felony charges following an August 12 apartment fire. Authorities say Oliver intentionally set the fire, which spread through a multi-unit building on Third Avenue. Everyone escaped without injury. Oliver is charged with fourth-degree arson and first-degree reckless endangerment.

• New York Speed Week Nets Nearly 60,000 Tickets

  Law enforcement agencies across New York issued nearly 60,000 tickets during the state’s latest Speed Week crackdown. The August 3 through 9 campaign included more than 16,000 speeding tickets and over 1,500 impaired driving arrests. • Traveling Memorials Coming to Glens Falls

  The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and a 9/11 Memorial Wall are coming to Crandall Park in Glens Falls this weekend. A procession will bring the displays into the city Thursday morning, with an opening ceremony Friday at 10. Both memorials will remain open around the clock through Sunday.
