• Poultney Man Cited After Dog Shot

  70 year old David Nilsen of Poultney, VT has been cited on an animal cruelty charge after Vermont State Police say he intentionally shot a dog that wandered onto his Lewis Road property. The dog suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition. Nilsen is due in Rutland Criminal Court September 21.

  Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. was taken to a hospital after being injured before Saturday’s eighth race at Saratoga. Ortiz appeared to injure an ankle when his horse acted up before post time. He was removed from his remaining mounts, while And The Runner Is was scratched as a precaution.

• Saratoga Physician Assistant Brings Medical Care to Unhoused

  41 year old physician assistant Samuel Halajian is taking free medical care directly to unhoused people in Saratoga Springs. Once a week, he visits encampments to treat illnesses and injuries, provide medications and help manage chronic conditions. The outreach is supported by the Saratoga Hospital Foundation.

• Man Reported Missing in Washington County

  Authorities are searching for Derrick Juckett of Dresden, who has not been seen since July 31. Juckett may be camping near Granville or Whitehall and is believed to have no food, money or way to communicate. Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 518-747-4623.

• Lawmakers Push Tougher Child Neglect Penalties

  State lawmakers are proposing tougher penalties for child neglect following the death of 3 year old Joycelynn Ann Dylewski of Corinth. The proposed “Joycelynn’s Law” would create a new felony charge carrying 25 years to life when neglect causes a child’s death, and five to 15 years when it causes serious injury.
