• Warren County Considers New Finance Department

  Warren County supervisors are considering creating a finance department led by a commissioner appointed by the board. The proposal follows the theft of three-point-three-million dollars from county accounts last December. A criminal investigation and efforts to recover the money remain underway.

• Crews Battle Early Morning Wilton House Fire

  Several fire departments responded to a house fire in Wilton early Saturday. The call came in shortly before 5:30 a.m. after flames and a possible entrapment were reported. A second alarm brought additional crews and tankers to the scene. Officials have not released further details.

• Warren County Welcomes New K-9 Team

  Warren County Sheriff’s Officer Colin O’Brien and K-9 Timmy have completed more than 20 weeks of state police training. Their instruction included explosives detection, tracking, building searches and handler protection. Timmy is named in honor of retired K-9 Officer Timothy Guy, who served the department for more than 27 years.

• Warren County Diversion Program Connects Residents With Help

  A new Glens Falls program is helping people facing homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges avoid deeper involvement with the legal system. The LEAD program connects participants with social workers and housing providers. About 20 people have been referred since the program began six to eight months ago.

• Saratoga Springs Pilot Killed in Glider Collision

  State police have identified 80 year old James Morzillo of Saratoga Springs as the pilot killed when two gliders collided over Edinburg Friday. Morzillo’s aircraft crashed in a remote area. The second glider landed safely, and its pilot was not injured. Federal investigators are reviewing the crash.
