The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding boaters and anglers to “Clean, Drain, Dry” their equipment before entering lakes and waterways this summer. More than 220 boat launches statewide will have inspection stewards on site beginning Memorial Day weekend to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. State officials say invasive plants and fish can damage ecosystems, hurt recreation and impact local economies. Last year alone, boat stewards conducted more than 220-thousand inspections and intercepted thousands of invasive plants and animals across New York waterways.
